To those who might be unfamiliar, one website that partly (though inadvertently) inspired Zombie Darwin is The Darwin Awards. Not to be confused with the actual Charles Darwin Award for university achievements in zoology; in a similar vain to Zombie Darwin, darwinawards.com takes a sarcastic look at the human race under the premise that for the good of our species, people who are really really stupid should not reproduce.
However, rather than simply and cynically spotlighting asinine human behavior as a (sometimes sadly humorous) challenge to human progress, the "awards" actually celebrate people who "do a service to Humanity by removing themselves from the gene pool" while dying in the act of... well... being really really stupid.
Anyhoo, the Darwin Awards have been around for a very long time, spawning a cult following that includes books and a star-studded film, and it's just been recently updated with new entries (personal favorite: Crushing Debt). So, if you've never checked out the Awards before and you happen to like the stuff that I post on this amateur-night blog, I seriously recommend you go to darwinawards.com for more laughs.
